Southeast WOW 360º Project

Developing relationships with local employers, educators and area leadership is part of the recipe for successful workforce development. Every year  Southeast AlabamaWorks! hosts, Southeast World of Works. This event is a chance for employers and industry leaders to showcase their industries to 5,000 eighth graders.

Securing Our Future Workforce

It is crucial to reach students on their level. Every interaction during the event is geared to appeal to student’s interests and their limited knowledge of the different career paths available to them. The more interaction, the more educational the experience. Each booth operator wants students to walk away with some knowledge of their industry.

Taking experience to the next level

For the most recent event this past February our team was tasked with bringing a fresh, new approach to enhance the students’ experience. We wanted to create a completely immersive experience for the students in attendance. We took three industries and brought them into the virtual world. These industries were chosen and filmed on different days to accommodate their schedules. We began with Alabama Power, where we lifted our 360º video camera 30 ft. into the air in a bucket truck to simulate the Lineman experience.

Our next 360º experience was with the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) in their command center for four hospital room simulators. During this video, students experience what it is like to study/train within the osteopathic medical field. Finally, we traveled to Eufaula, Alabama to film the assembly line at American Buildings and bring the welding line up close and personal to viewers.

Each experience brings students’ into these industries and we hope to continue bringing more industries into the virtual world of 360º video viewing. This will help students become familiar with career opportunities that are high-paying and in high demand in our region.

The work

We are proud to be a part of this project with Southeast AlabamaWorks! The 360º videos can be viewed on this YouTube Playlist.
